The Lab Program es un laboratorio de arte e investigación que generalmente recibe a un residentx por mes, sin importar su bagaje disciplinario, origen o experiencia artística. Desde el 2017 El Lab Program está interesada en recibir a participantes que vinculen sus prácticas con narrativas espaciales, acuerpamiento, espacio público y prácticas artísticas de sitio específico.
En colaboración con otros espacios autogestivos de arte en la ciudad de México, El Lab Program está lista para recibir a aquellxs que estén interesadxs en cuestionar su proceso de producción y dispuestxs a expandir sus preguntas a través de la curiosidad como principal guía crítica. La Laboratoria ofrece un lugar donde los practicantes del arte tienen la oportunidad de crear nuevas situaciones, narrativas y proyectos de colaboración, que la mayoría de las veces se basan en las experiencias de un intercambio cultural ocurrido durante cada investigación.
Lxs residentxs tienen la oportunidad de compartir su trabajo en eventos públicos, los que son hospedados con algunos de nuestros espacios de arte colaboradores en la ciudad y sus alrededores. El formato de cada presentación dependerá de la naturaleza de los proyectos desarrollados y según la disciplina e interés del residente.

La creación de libros de artista, como una forma de democratizar el conocimiento para cada proceso de investigación es altamente recomendable pero no obligatoria.
​
La Laboratoria ofrece el lugar ideal y el tiempo necesario que algunas comunidades creativas, artísticas o no, necesitan para poder renegociar la manera en la que habitan y experimentan con su propia construcción de saberes.
Invitamos a los participantes a que se vinculen con los rasgos culturales, afectivos y urbanos de la Ciudad de México, a tomar un riesgo creativo para renegociar con su gama de saberes.

Quién puede aplicar?
​
-Artistas interesadxs en desarrollar su trabajo en un ambiente y formatos poco convencionales, dispuestos a salir de su zona de confort.
-Profesionales del arte que estén dispuestos a negociar y aceptar las diferencias culturales de un nuevo contexto. Receptivos y flexibles para aceptar el cambio y la improvisación como una herramienta para su propia práctica.
- Creadores que pueden construir relaciones sociales positivas mientras realizan sus investigaciones, capaces de expresar y solicitar sus necesidades de una manera abierta, amable y crítica con nuestra comunidad inmediata.
- Oyentes activos o reflexivos capaces de considerar el contexto de producción como base fundamental para su investigación. Pueden ser creadores que puedan aceptar y celebrar el desafío de una inmersión breve e intensiva en una nueva cultura.
-Creadores que estén dispuestos a re-pensar sus procesos de trabajo y probar con diferentes formatos.
-Personas que quieran explorar la colaboración como parte de su práctica.

Costos:
​
Actualmente la tarifa de esta residencia es de 12.500 mxp* o su equivalente en dolares, y se compromente a ofrecer lo siguiente:

-Espacio de estudio,
-Acompañamiento,
-Visitas de Estudio,
-Agenda personalizada con temas a investigar,
-Publicación digital e impresa,
-Documentación y presentación pública.
​Los gastos de producción, viáticos y manutención deberán ser cubiertos de forma separada.
​
El Lab opera como un laboratorio de arte autogestionado, colaborando activamente con otros espacios autogestivos en la Ciudad de México. Reconocemos las limitaciones financieras que algunos artistas enfrentan y nos esforzamos por hacer este programa y red de colaboradores accesible para todes. La tarifa ya está significativamente subsidiada por los recursos propios del laboratorio, y es sólo la mitad del costo real, por lo que tu aceptación implica que te estamos otorgando un financiamiento parcial de nuestra parte.

Nos encantaría brindar apoyo de mediación, curaduría e investigación antes de tu llegada y ayudarte a presentar tu proyecto de creación-investigación para posibles oportunidades de financiamiento desde tu lugar de origen o ciudad. !Escribe y quizás podemos encontrar una manera de hacer posible tu participación!

About:

The Lab Program is a cross-disciplinary art-research laboratory based in Mexico City. Usually hosts one resident per month, regardless of their disciplinary background, origin, or artistic experience.
The Lab Program welcomes participants who are interested in exploring spatial narratives, embodiment, public space, and site-specific artistic practices, regardless of the medium of making.
In collaboration with other self-managed art spaces in Mexico City, The Lab Program is ready to receive those who are willing to question their production process and expand their questions through curiosity as their main critical guide.
The Lab Program provides a space where art practitioners have the opportunity to create new situations, narratives, and collaborative projects, often based on the experiences of a cultural exchange that occurs during each research period.
Residents have the opportunity to share their work at public events, which are hosted in collaboration with partnered spaces in the city and its surroundings. The format of each presentation will depend on the nature of the developed project and the discipline and interests of the resident.
The making of artist books as a way to democratize knowledge for each research process is highly recommended but not mandatory. The Lab Program offers the ideal space and the necessary time that some creative communities, whether artistic or not, need to renegotiate the way they inhabit and experiment with their own construction of knowledge.
We invite participants to engage with the cultural, emotional, and urban features of Mexico City, to take a creative risk in renegotiating their range of knowledge.

-All researchers interested in developing their work in a non-conventional environment.
​-All researchers who are open to rethink their work in progress and test different formats than they used to.
-Art practitioners who are willing to negotiate and accept the cultural differences of a new context. That can embrace change and improvisation as a form of creating tools for their own practice.
-Creators that can build positive social relationships while making their investigations, able to express and request their needs in an open minded, kind and critical manner with our immediate community.
-Active or reflective listeners able to consider the context of production as a fundamental basis for their research. Creators that can accept and celebrate the challenge of a short and intensive immersion in a new culture.
-All researchers that want to explore intersectional, collaborative and unconventional methods in their production.
-All creatives interested in active engagement with Mexico City and its outskirts.

Costs:
​
Current fee for this residency is 12,500 MXN or its equivalent in dollars. Fee includes studio space, mentoring and personalized schedule, digital and printed publication, documentation, and public presentation. Production expenses, housing and travel expenses, must be covered separately.
The Lab Program operates as a self-funded art-lab, actively collaborating with other independent spaces in Mexico City. Recognizing the financial constraints artists often face, we strive to make our program accessible. Our fee, is already significantly subsidized by the lab's resources and is just half of the actual cost. Your acceptance implies that we are already grantting you with a partial funding from us. While we understand that everything comes with a price, we're committed to providing mediation, curatorial, and research support prior to your arrival, helping you submit your project or research for potential funding opportunities from your home country or city.
